Majority of video game players, whether they enjoy games like agario or heavy games, aren’t only deeply serious and critical on their gaming. Turns out, they too are serious when it comes to politics.
Entertainment Software Association or ESA, a lobbying group in the video game industry, reported in a research they’ve conducted that about 65% of adults in America, which is about 164 million Americans, regard themselves as gamers. Within that 65%, 59% or approximately 97 million people expressed that they are civic-minded individuals and intend to participate in the 2020 presidential election.
Voters have casted over 136 million ballots in the presidential race in 2016. Experts calculated approximately that 77,000 votes veered the Electoral College vote on the side of President Donald. Veering the other way would’ve in fact been sufficient enough to vote into office Hillary Clinton, former Senator of New York, as President of the United States.
Gamers Participate in Elections
For Democrats, a gaming body of voters may possibly be good news for them. As per the study by ESA, wherein it included answers from 4,000 adults in American, approximately 37% of players of video games deem themselves as Democrats, while 33% considered themselves as Republicans, and 18% as Independents. However, the study didn’t mention which direction the video gamers may be supporting in the election in 2020.

As per ESA, the average gamer in America is 33 years of age and has been a video game player for 14 years. Over half of them have finished their college education, and almost a third does regular meditation. Approximately 57% of parentages play video games at least every week with their children. Of the 57%, about three-quarters state that video games are edifying and are beneficial to their children. Yet, 90% of parents responded that they monitor and closely watch the types of video games their children play.
Video games are will prevail and are here to stay. Maybe this is one reason why the video gaming industry earned a revenue of 43.4 billion US dollars for games, hardware, and services in 2018 from 36 billion US dollars in 2017.
